The innovation hub of Asia, InnoVEX 2023 was held from May 30 to June 2 in Taipei; attracting over 20,000 visitors both locally and internationally. Among the main events was the InnoVEX Forum that invited influential speakers from industry leading companies and rising startup teams.
One of the speakers of the Asia Smart Mobility Ecosystem Forum is Mr. Eiji Shibata, Senior GM of Engineering Div., GM of ADAS development Dept, & Chief of SUBARU Lab, SUBARU CORPORATION. With over a century of history with history in various industries including aircraft and is now mainly known for their automobile manufacturing business.
In his speech, Mr. Shibata shared how SUBARU’s goal is to achieve zero fatal accidents and they aim to achieve this goal through their stereo camera technology. Combining this detection method with AI will enable the model to detect road conditions and what object are in the way of the car’s path.
AI is an integral part of autonomous driving and to make sure the AI model can drive as well as a human, the AI needs to learn from diverse training data to prevent accidents. Whether the data comes from live driving or simulated from CG, proper data labelling is necessary to define the information that the stereo camera sees and the actions the AI will need to take in response to the road conditions. Creating the data with perfect label and ground truths such as accurate object distance and velocity will be important for AI developments.
