Jari Vaario, Head of Asia IPR Business Development of Nokia, is currently responsible for new approaches to monetize patents in Asia. Earlier he was heading licensing and government affairs in Asia, and heading globally Nokia’s IP matters at standardization organizations.
He worked in China from 2001 to 2005 as CTO of Nokia China and was responsible for R&D, technology, standardization and intellectual property rights. Before going to China, he established Nokia Research Center in Tokyo, and was CTO of Nokia Venture Organization activity.
He received his Master of Science degree from Helsinki University of Technology in 1985 and PhD from the University of Tokyo in 1994. Before joining Nokia Japan in May 1998, he spent several years in academia, serving as a full-time professor at a national university in Japan
