Justin Mclean is an experienced open source leader with over 30 years of experience in software development, education, and community building. His work focuses on open source governance, incubation, and building sustainable, community-led ecosystems.
He has played a key role in mentoring and guiding projects through incubation, supporting their transition into independent open source communities. He was also closely involved in the journey of Apache Gravitino, helping take it from a closed-source, company-led project to an open source project in the Apache Incubator, and through to becoming an independent top-level project, illustrating how open source projects can evolve alongside commercial ecosystems.
He is an active international speaker and educator, helping organizations and developers understand how to build, govern, and scale open source projects in real-world environments.
