Taiwan to Host 2025 AI Innovative Application Forum: Leveraging Semiconductor Expertise for AI Advancement

 2025-04-18 By: InnoVEX Team

As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly transforming global industries, Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) will host the 2025 AI Innovative Application Forum on May 15 at the Grand Hilai Taipei. With the theme of “Pioneering the New AI Era,” the event will serve as a pre-exhibition forum for COMPUTEX and InnoVEX 2025, echoing this year's exhibitions main theme: AI NEXT.
The forum will gather leading figures from Taiwan and around the world to examine the current AI ecosystem, exploring strategic synergies between AI and semiconductors, while mapping out the blueprints for future developments.

Extending Semiconductor Advantages to AI Applications to Boost Industry Competitiveness

Taiwan’s semiconductor industry continues its global leadership. According to the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI/ISTI), the sector's output reached NT$5.315 trillion in 2024 which is a 22.4% increase year-over-year. This is projected to exceed NT$6.179 trillion in 2025, marking a 16.2% growth.
NSTC Minister Cheng-wen Wu emphasized the importance of going beyond chip design and manufacturing. Taiwan must channel its semiconductor strengths into AI application solutions, fostering innovations across industries and positioning itself as a global AI powerhouse.

Forum Explores Three Key Dimensions for AI Development

The AI Innovation Application Forum will address four critical aspects of Taiwan's AI development strategy:

  • Global competition and local advantages
  • Technological innovation and industrial implementation
  • Forward-looking trends and practical experience

Distinguished speakers include I. H. Yeh, Chairman and President of ELAN Microelectronics; Hong-Jye Hong, Senior Vice President of AUO; Frank Grunert, President and CEO of Siemens Taiwan; K.S. Pua, Founder & CEO of Phison Electronics; and Jim Lai, Chairman of Skymizer. These leaders will share their insights on topics ranging from AI-enabled chip innovation and AI-powered manufacturing to smart manufacturing and Taiwan’s AI ecosystem roadmap.

Global Talents Shine: IC Taiwan Grand Challenge Winners to Be Recognized

A major forum highlight will be the award ceremony for the second batch of the IC Taiwan Grand Challenge, a global initiative by the NSTC to spotlight emerging innovators in IC design, chip application, and system integration.
This round attracted 154 submissions from global startups, academic teams, and individuals. The winners will be honored during the forum. The third call for proposals officially launched on March 26, underscoring Taiwan’s continued investment in cultivating next-generation semiconductor leaders.
Winning teams will also showcase their work at InnoVEX 2025 from May 20–23 and deliver live demo pitches on May 22, 1–3 PM at the Pi Stage.
